<itunes:author>Fishing Films &amp; Facts</itunes:author>

<itunes:subtitle>The last of the three Cod Wars between Britain and Iceland left the UK fishing fleet banned from within Icelands 200 mile unilaterally declared territorial limit, and their home ports such as Fleetwood doomed to terminal decline. But before the retreat, there were many scurmishes and incidents, most of which were never reported. Here Fleetwood trawler chief engineer Les Hall recounts some of them.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:subtitle>As a response to the Scottish government demanding hard data demonstrating the need for marine conservation, the Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Network (SSACN) organised a Spurdog Tagathon on Loch's Sunart and Etive. So popular was this, and so revealing in terms of factual data that it has now become an anual event with others at Luce Bay for Tope, and Crinan for Common Skate added to the diary. Here event organisers Stuart Cresswell and Willie Kennedy discuss both the concept and the events.</itunes:subtitle>

Fifty Sharks in a single day is another startling statistic. And we haven't mentioned the quality of the Porbeagle fishing yet. <itunes:author>Fishing Films &amp; Facts</itunes:author>

<itunes:subtitle>Mick Riley, sole survivor of a dinghy angling tragedy off Lancashires Fylde Coast talks about the events leading up that day. Adendum to original podcast with RNLI inshore lifeboat helmsman Phil Denham who skippered the rescue boat on the day in question. </itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Sole survivor of a dinghy angling tragedy off Lancashire's Fylde Coast, Mick Riley re-lives the terrible day when a breathless wind forecast suddenly turned into a force 10 storm at high tide with nowhere to put his small boat in, and how the rescue services battled through the storm to rescue him, but were unable to save the other lads who had sailed in a separate boat for a quite winters day cod fishing off Cleveleys back in 1982. The press gave Mick and the others a very hard time suggesting that they had not checked the weather reports and were not properly equipped. Here Mick Riley sets the record state with additional information from his RNLI rescuer Phil Denham.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Tony Parry, skipper of Jensen II, talks about the history and current status of both fisheries, and offshore wind farms with the direct and indirect effects on fishing and fish distribution.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Rhyl has long been a very popular summer charter angling venue, just as Liverpool has become increasingly popular with boat anglers over the winter months. Here Tony Parry who is skipper of the charter 'Jensen II' discusses his winter and summer business split over both of those venues. He also goes on to discuss the detrimental effects of offshore wind farms, and a Mersey based project he is involved in aimed at better understanding Thornback Rays locally as they show very positive signs of making a major comeback to the North West.</itunes:summary>

<title>Ep 05. Phill Williams Interview, Fylde Jumbo Cod</title>

<itunes:author>Fishing Films &amp; Facts</itunes:author>

<itunes:subtitle>Fishing Films And Facts presents an interview with Phill Williams talkimng in detail and with candour about the historically famous Fylde Coast jumbo cod era.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>As a dinghy angler who participated in the famous Fylde Coast jumbo Cod fishing era between the mid 1970's and mid 1980's, Phill Williams takes a realistic as well as a nostalgic look at this probably never to be repeated event. Many huge Cod were taken very close in to Lancashire's Cleveleys shoreline. But it wasn't a case of guaranteed success, as there would be days with little or no reward for your efforts, often in weather and sea conditions at the limit of what the small un-sophisticated boats back then could handle.</itunes:summary>

<title>Ep 04. Frank Bee Interview, Morecambe Bay </title>

<itunes:author>Fishing Films &amp; Facts</itunes:author>

<itunes:subtitle>Vetran angler Frank Bee talks about his long commercial and charter fishing career.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Frank Bee is a former commercial fisherman turned angling charter boat skipper who used all his local knowledge of the Morecambe Bay area to develop the port of Fleetwood from an angling light weight into one of the countries premier angling venues during the 1970's. A reputation which unfortunately, like so many in the UK, has since dwindled. Then, in his early 70's, he retired from charter fishing and bought himself a small boat from which Mark Miller caught the North West Cod record of 42 pounds. Frank went on to be a founder member of the Wyre Boat Angling Club which still operates today. An interesting insight into the early days of sea angling along the Lancashire Coast, with some equally interesting thoughts on the future.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Gethyn Owen is a Welsh International boat angler turned successfull charter skipper operating out of Holyhead.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Gethyn Owen is a Welsh International boat angler turned successful charter skipper operating out of Holyhead. A measure of that success is anglers fishing aboard his boat 'My Way' having successfully claimed the Welsh records for Tope, Spurdog and Smoothhound, which in all cases were returned to the sea alive. In addition to this, Geth also worked very closely with researcher Ed Farrell from Dublin University looking at Smoothhound speciation, a subject also discussed here, along with an introduction into entering the international scene for those people with aspirations to become a Welsh International boat team member.</itunes:summary>

<title>Ep 02. Mick Riley, Sea Rescue Interview </title>

<itunes:author>Fishing Films &amp; Facts</itunes:author>

<itunes:subtitle>Mick Riley, sole survivor of a dinghy angling tragedy off Lancashires Fylde Coast talks about the events leading up that day.</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Sole survivor of a dinghy angling tragedy off Lancashires Fylde Coast, Mick Riley re-lives the terrible day when a breathless wind forecast suddenly turned into a force 10 storm at high tide with nowhere to put his small boat in, and how the rescue services battled through the storm to rescue him, but were unable to save the other lads who had sailed in a separate boat for a quite winters day cod fishing off Cleveleys back in 1982. The press gave Mick and the others a very hard time suggesting that they had not checked the weather reports and were not properly equipped. Here Mick Riley sets the record state and offers a few words of advice on small boat safety equipment.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Ian Burrett operates a highly successful charter angling business 'Onyermarks Sea Fishing' from trailed 19 foot Orkney Fastliners which he has used to open up the tremendous potential around the Mull Of Galloway area of south west Scotland, plus the Common Skate fishing in and around the Oban area. Here he discusses how, as a Yorkshireman, he came to set up business in Scotland and put his particular areas of sea angling firmly on the angling map.</itunes:summary>
